Complete Home Remodel Project

About the project:

Located in the historic Fishtown neighborhood of Philadelphia, this complete home remodel includes an addition of a bedroom and bathroom, which revived a beloved family home into a stunning and sustainable space. The homeowners, a young couple planning to start a family, opted to renovate their existing home to better suit their needs in the future while also maintaining its character and maximizing energy efficiency.

The project involved a comprehensive overhaul, gutting 90% of the home to update and optimize every aspect from structure to finishes. Key structural changes included removing a brick wall to open up the space between the dining area and the kitchen, and adding a second-story addition to accommodate a new, spacious third bedroom and a full-size bathroom with a double vanity and refreshing natural light.

To improve the home's energy efficiency and comfort, we installed closed-cell spray foam insulation in all exterior walls and the roof. Provided by Mammoth Spray Foam Solutions, adding this insulation not only reduced utility bills but also strengthened the structural integrity of the old brick rowhome. All windows were replaced with energy-efficient models from Provia and the home now boasts a high-efficiency HVAC system that ensures comfort in all seasons.

The interior redesign focused on modernizing while preserving the home’s original charm. We completely updated the kitchen with new custom cabinetry, Café appliances and a relocation of the rear door to enhance the flow and functionality of the space. The first floor now features beautifully refinished hardwood floors and a new modern black iron stair railing, seamlessly blending the old with the new.
